UW Laboratory facilities

The synergy of research surrounding the Center for Investigating Healthy Minds creates opportunities that cannot be found in any other academic setting. At the University of Wisconsin-Madison, the Waisman Laboratory for Brain Imaging and Behavior, the Laboratory for Affective Neuroscience, and the Waisman Center offer state-of-the-art facilities for research involving brain imaging, neuroscience, and human development. The HealthEmotions Research Institute is an additional UW facility that uses breakthrough scientific methods to study the relationship between emotions and health.

Waisman Laboratory for Brain Imaging and Behavior

The Waisman Laboratory for Brain Imaging & Behavior is a state-of-the-art facility dedicated to affective and cognitive neuroscience research with brain imaging. The lab currently is home to faculty with expertise in neuroscience, psychology, physics and statistics.

Laboratory for Affective Neuroscience

The Laboratory for Affective Neuroscience is engaged in a broad program of research on the brain mechanisms that underlie emotion and emotion regulation in normal individuals throughout the life course, and in individuals with various psychiatric disorders.

Waisman Center

The Waisman Center is not one, but many interrelated centers, unified by the common goal of understanding human development, developmental disabilities, and neurodegenerative diseases. It is a center of discovery, a vibrant complex of research laboratories where world-renowned faculty work to unlock the mysteries of human development and to invent new therapies and treatments for children and adults with developmental disabilities.

HealthEmotions Research Institute

The HealthEmotions Research Institute seeks to use state-of-the-art scientific methods developed for the study of illness to study the relationship between emotions and health. Understanding how states of mind influence the body is part of the next great frontier in brain research. The results will have profound consequences for our understanding of the biology of emotion, our concept of health, the prevention of disease and the promotion of resilience.
